Holy Scriptures

Holy Scriptures are writings widely acknowledged as sources of religious truths revealed by great religions of humankind. Holy Scriptures are usually written by prophets of particular religion and their disciples. Often are considered as dictated by higher beings, angels, devas. Holy Scriptures of Vedism, Brahmanism and Hinduism are Vedas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas, Upanishads and also Sutras, Itihasas, Puranas and Manusmrti. Holy Book of Zoroastrians is Avesta. Collection of sacred writings of Buddhism is called Tipitaka ie Three Baskets. The tradition states, that teachings contained in it were collected during the first Buddhists council in Rajagriha about 486 BCE, where all teachings of Buddha as remembered by his disciples were written down. The Holy Book o Islam is Quran (al-Quran), believed to be verbally revealed through the angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) from God to Prophet Muhammad. Judaism recognises most of all the holiness of Torah - the Five Books of Moses, known by greek name as Pentateuch, which according to religious beliefs was given to Jews, during their escape from Egypt, at Mount Sinai from the God Himself. Essentially Old Testament as whole is considered the Holy Book by both Judaism and Christianity. Holy Book of Sikh is Adi Granth. Taoism recognises Daodejing (Book of the Way and Virtue) written by Laozi, Nanhuachenking authored supposedly by Zhuang Zhou, and Liezi.
